What is it?

A glitch background imitates a disturbed digital or video signal: slices of the image are torn and shifted, colors split into red and cyan, and scanlines run across. It suits tech, gaming, music and cyberpunk designs.

What you can use it for

  • Tech and cyberpunk

Glitch backgrounds give product launches, hackathons and tech talks an edgy, digital look.

  • Music covers and visuals

Electronic music, visualizers and event posters love the broken signal look.

  • Animated social posts

Exported as a GIF with new seeds, every frame tears differently and the image flickers like a faulty screen.

How it works

Pick the colors and direction of the base gradient, then set how many tears there are and how far they shift. RGB split adds the red and cyan fringes, blocks and scanlines add noise. Press Space for new variants. Export as PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG or as a flickering GIF.

Tips

  • Few, wide tears look calm and graphic. Many thin tears with a strong shift look chaotic.
  • Set the RGB split to 0 for a clean, colorless glitch, for example with the Mono preset.
  • Scanlines and grain make the image look like an old monitor or a VHS tape.

FAQ

Can I put the glitch effect on my own photo?
Not yet. This tool makes glitch backgrounds from a gradient. For photos, the pixel and dither effects in the image effects category are a good start.
How do I make it flicker?
Export a GIF and choose new seeds as the frame source. Every frame gets new tears and blocks.
Why is the SVG so small?
It consists only of rectangles, gradients and a line pattern, without filters. That keeps it small and sharp at every size.
Does the export look like the preview?
Yes. Preview and export use the same graphic, computed from the seed. The same settings and seed always give the same result.
