What is it?

Light beams are rays that fan out from a bright source, like sunlight through clouds, a spotlight on a stage or light falling into water. This tool creates them from scratch as a background, without a photo. If you want rays on top of your own picture, use the God Rays effect instead. Musterli computes the beams with a shader in your browser, nothing leaves your device.

What you can use it for

  • Dramatic hero sections

Light falling from above draws the eye to a headline or product. Use it live as a slow, moving background.

  • Events and stages

Spotlights in brand colors suit event announcements, tickets and concert posters.

  • Calm wallpapers

Underwater or forest light makes quiet backgrounds for phones and desktops, sharp up to 8K.

How it works

Place the light source with Source X and Y; it can also sit outside the canvas. Direction and spread set the cone, ray count and sharpness set the look of the rays, and falloff decides how far the light reaches. Haze adds soft mist. Pick two to six colors from dark background to brightest light. Press Space for a new variant. Export PNG, JPG or WebP up to 8K, a seamless GIF loop, or live code for your website.

Tips

  • Put the source just above the top edge (Source Y below 0) for light that falls in from outside the picture.
  • A spread of 360° turns the beams into a sunburst around the source.
  • Less falloff and more haze make the light softer and fill the whole picture.

FAQ

What is the difference to the God Rays effect?
God Rays adds rays to your own photo. Light Beams creates the whole picture from scratch as a background and can move as a live loop or embed.
Can I use the light beams as a website background?
Yes. In the export dialog, choose Web Component, React component or HTML embed. The rays move live, pause off screen and stand still for people who prefer reduced motion.
Can the light source sit outside the picture?
Yes. Source X and Y run from -50 to 150 percent of the canvas, so the light can fall in from any side.
Does the export look exactly like the preview?
Yes. Preview and export run the same shader with the same values, and large exports up to 8K are rendered in tiles without seams.
