What is it?

A placeholder image holds the space for a picture that is still missing from a layout. It shows its size in pixels or your own text, so everyone knows what goes there. You need placeholders in wireframes, mockups, prototypes, presentations and while building websites.

How it works

Pick a size from the list (social media, screens, ad formats) or enter width and height. The label shows width × height automatically, your own text or nothing. Then choose a solid color, a gradient or a pattern and turn on diagonals or a border. Export as SVG, PNG, JPG or WebP.

FAQ

Do I need a placeholder URL service?
No. You download the image as a file and add it to your project. There is no dependency on someone else's server, and nothing breaks when a service shuts down.
Which sizes are possible?
Any size from 16 to 8192 pixels per side. The list has common social media formats, screens, print formats and ad banners such as 300 × 250 or 728 × 90.
Does the text fit narrow images?
Yes. The label gets smaller until it fits the width. Only system fonts are used; no font files are loaded.
Is SVG or PNG better?
SVG is tiny and stays sharp at any size, ideal for prototypes in code. PNG, JPG and WebP look the same everywhere, even where another system font is installed.
